When I was in medical school, I learned some very disturbing news, during one lecture, that I will never forget. The lecturer shared with us the findings of a study, that evaluated access to health care, demographic data, in two neighboring states, that shared similar economic levels, but had very different picture, when it came to the health of their citizens.



Regular mental imagery exercises help preserve arm strength during 4 weeks of immobilization, researchers have found. Strength is controlled by a number of factors — the most studied by far is skeletal muscle. However, the nervous system is also an important, though not fully understood, determinant of strength and weakness. In this study, researchers set out to test how the brain’s cortex plays into strength development.


Do you take vitamin D? It is one of the most potent health enhancing vitamins known, and I’ve written about it extensively. If you don’t, perhaps the findings of this study will persuade you to reconsider doing so. I am very happy to share this study with you, as it is very instructive as to how to prevent cancer with adequate vitamin D intake (and blood levels).


I love the field of positive psychology. For me it balanced my exposure to psychiatric illness and provided me with a broader, more encompassing view of our psychological experience as human beings. My only regret about it is that it was born after I completed my formal education.
