  • High Stress Jobs May Increase Risk for Stroke

    Job related stress is a significant contributor to our physical health and emotional well-being. A recent meta-analysis of six studies has found evidence that jobs with high mental or physical stress may be linked to a higher risk for stroke. Those with high stress jobs – jobs with high demand and low control had a 22% increase in stroke.

    Eating a Mediterranean diet or other healthy dietary pattern, comprising of fruit, vegetables, legumes, and nuts and low in processed meats, is associated with preventing the onset of depression, according to research. A large study of 15,093 people suggests depression could be linked with nutrient deficits.

    A new University of Washington study that tested 65 wines from America’s top four wine-producing states — California, Washington, New York and Oregon — found all but one have arsenic levels that exceed what’s allowed in drinking water.

  • Cholesterol Lowering Drugs Accelerate the Aging Process

    Cholesterol lowering drugs (statins) have serious side effects. Primarily, these drugs block the development of a critical anti-oxidant vitamin, CoQ10,that’s causes significant heart, liver, muscle and brain damage. A new study finds that statin use also impairs stem cell function, which helps in slowing hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), but hinders other body processes. Because of these effects, the study supports weighing individual risk when considering statins as a preventive measure.

  • Commercial Almond Milk Exposed: It’s A Fake Beverage

    For several years after I stopped drinking soy milk, I bought almond milk at my local grocery store, and consumed it regularly, until one day I read the label, and noticed the brand I used contain soy lecithin and carrageenan. I stopped drinking also commercial nut milks and began making my own, because making them is easy, cheaper, and I knew what I was putting into the beverage.
