Is there a supplement that can take the place of exercise? Not completely, in terms of its numerous health related benefits. However, because more than 50 percent of obese and overweight adults are do not exercise to improve their health, a new study suggests taking a certain vitamin can have similar heart related (cardiovascular) benefits comparable to regular exercise.

A new study, published this week in PLOS Medicine, shows that a diet low in animal-based foods and high in plant-based foods substantially lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes. They also find that the quality of the plant-based diet plays a significant role.
