Use of e-cigarettes every day can nearly double the odds of a heart attack, and increase it five-fold for those smoking and using e-cigarettes according to a new analysis of a survey of nearly 70,000 people, led by researchers at UC San Francisco.






Twenty years ago, researchers made the accidental discovery that BPA had leached out of plastic cages used to house female mice in the lab, causing an increase in chromosomally abnormal eggs. Now, the same team is back to report that the array of alternative bisphenols now used to replace BPA in BPA-free bottles, cups, cages, and other items appear to come with similar problems for their mice.



I have heard rumblings about this disturbing practice, and still find it a difficult pill to swallow that it is acceptable to call a patient and deliver such a devastating diagnosis by phone. During my years in medical school, this type of notification was simply unthinkable.
