On a new take on the exercise truism ‘use it, or lose it,’ researchers show neurological health is an interactive relationship with our muscles and our world, and using the legs, particularly in weight-bearing exercise, sends signals to the brain that are vital for the production of healthy neural cells. The groundbreaking study fundamentally alters brain and nervous system medicine — giving doctors new clues as to why patients with certain neurological disorders often rapidly decline with limited movement.




Physical exercise has an anti-aging effect on the brain — an area that controls memory, learning and balance. A new study, comparing different forms of exercise — dancing and endurance training — undertaken by senior volunteers for eighteen months, found both can help to keep the brain young, but dancing provided additional benefit.
